Inspired by my three-legged dog Sage, these cards each feature three large flowers, and each has 5 graphite spheres hidden throughout the design. The three flowers represent Sage's actual three legs, but the 5 spheres represent the idea that she acts like she has 5 legs. Inspiration, Motivation, and Determination. Good things come in threes.

Blackbirds Dying in the Dead of Night

Late in the night on December 31st, 2010, thousands of red-winged blackbirds mysteriously fell to the ground, dead. The cause was unknown...possibly a lightening strike, hail, or new year’s eve fireworks, though some believe it could have been due to military tests or even pesticides. Regardless, the story made me so sad. I wanted to create a small tribute to them, and the Beatles song lent itself well to just what I wanted to say.

Birds.....Nature’s little architects. The way they build intricate and cozy homes (and gather all the materials themselves...no delivery trucks, no product catalogs to order from) is something I just find inspiring.

A dear friend took a beautiful photo and posted it to her blog and I knew I just had to turn it into a painting. She described the bird as being kind enough to strike a pose for her. With her permission to borrow the composition from her photo, this piece was born.
